OUR STORY

Who We Are

Church Farm is a family run farm, located a few miles south of Spilsby, on the edge of the Lincolnshire wolds.

We breed and produce quality chickens for showing and back yard keeping.

They are lovingly reared and cared for until they go on to make fantastic pets for someone. They are all friendly and well handled by the younger members of the team. They are used to being picked up and have been around sheep, horses and dogs.

All chickens are wormed regularly and are lice treated. Healthy chickens are happy chickens!

SILVER LACED BARNEVELDER

£25 per Hen. 18 weeks +
£5 per Cockerel. 18 weeks +
The Barnevelder takes its name from the village in Holland where the breed was “made” in 1913 or thereabouts.
More than a dozen Barnevelder varieties were created and recognized but the Silver Double Laced Barnevelder is known to be the rarest colour. Also known as "Barnies", they are a calm and docile breed. The hens are excellent year round layers of up to 200 eggs a year.
The Barnevelder is a very friendly bird, easy, gentle and kid friendly.
Barnevelder hens are not good flyers and generally choose not to.
Cold hardiness and good nature makes them easy to look after for the chicken keeper

BUFF ORPINGTONS

£25 per Hen. 18 weeks +
£5 per Cockerel. 18 weeks +
This breed was named after the town in Kent where the originator, William Cook, had his farm. He bred the Buff in 1894
Orpingtons have a very placid, friendly and docile nature, one that is tolerant of being handled. They are one of the best birds for the first time keeper and for those with children-an ideal ‘pet’ chicken. It is a fairly hardy breed but will need protection in wet weather - the heavy soft feathering can get waterlogged. They don’t like very hot weather so shade should be provided. They are not agile or flighty, a 3 foot fence is often sufficient to contain them. They make good mothers. Perches should be lower and nest boxes larger than normal.
Egg yield varies enormously depending on the strain, 120-180, light brown eggs in a year.
There are 4 standardised colours in the UK (Black, Buff, Blue and White) the Buff Orpington is one of the most popular varieties

CRESTED CREAM LEGBARS

£20 per Hen. 18 weeks +
£5 per Cockerel. 18 weeks +
Cream Legbars are a slender, elegant breed.  Males have cream neck and saddle and grey chest, legs and wings and have barred (striped) feathering.  Females have cream necks, salmon chests and grey barred bodies. They're fun looking, with unusual little crests tucked behind floppy combs.
They lay around 180-200 blue, green or olive coloured eggs in a year. Their blue/green/olive eggs are much in demand.
Cream Legbars do well in free-ranging or enclosed coops. They are good foragers, and are alert to predators. The hens are rarely broody (but when they are broody, they are excellent mothers).

SILKIES - MIXED COLOURS

£20 per Hen. 18 weeks +

£5 per Cockerel. 18 weeks +

Silkie is a breed of chicken named for its atypically fluffy plumage, which is said to feel like silk and satin. The breed has several other unusual qualities, such as black skin and bones, blue earlobes, and five toes on each foot, whereas most chickens only have four. A Silkie is the ultimate in kids' chickens. They are cuddly, fluffy and tolerant, love sitting in your lap and even enjoy cuddles. They are a very friendly, calm and docile bird and interact very well with people – they will follow you around and 'talk' to you.

Silkies do tend towards broodiness and make wonderful mothers. They are calm, friendly, trusting and rather lively birds which are unable to fly so can be kept with very low fencing and they also do very little damage to the garden. They don't have waterproof feathers so if they are allowed to free range they need to have an area they can access that is undercover so they can stay dry.

They come in a variety of colours - black, blue, gold, white, partridge, triple laced partridge, triple laced silver partridge, grey, cuckoo, lavender, red and buff.

We have a selection of different colours so please arrange to come and see them and you can then pick your favourite colours!

GOLD LACED POLISH

£25 per Hen. 18 weeks +
£5 per Cockerel. 18 weeks +
Polish are a very special and unique breed of chicken with their huge bouffant crest of feathers and v-shaped comb. They are among the most ornamental of all poultry breeds. It is a popular chicken breed and known for it's wild top hat of feathers. They are tame but their behaviour can be a bit wacky since their crest limits their vision. When in a flock with more aggressive breeds, Polish will tend to be on the low end of the pecking order.
They lay a good number of white eggs. Generally classed as a non-sitting bird, they can occasionally become broody.
Colours of the Polish are very varied. The best known being the white crested black with its black body and white crest. The other two similarly patterned colours are white crested blue and white-crested cuckoo. The chamois, gold and silver are all laced.
